Dental crowns are one of many advanced restorative treatments we offer, but probably the most versatile. Crowns can be used to treat a wide array of dental issues from damage to decay to tooth loss. In this post, we’ll discuss what dental crowns are and what the process of getting one at Vayner Family Dentistry looks like!
Crowns are tooth-shaped caps that can cover an existing tooth or replace a missing tooth. They are carefully crafted to look similar to your other teeth, so most people won’t even be able to tell they aren’t real. Crowns are made from a durable ceramic material that can last upwards of 20 years! They can be used to:
Similar to any treatment we provide at our office, we always start off with an in-person exam and consultation. This consultation gives us a chance to get to know your smile goals and take a closer look at your teeth and gums before recommending a treatment. If we determine that dental crowns are the right restorative solution for you, we’ll move forward with the dental crown process!
We’ll start by removing a layer of enamel from your existing tooth to ensure that the crown can fit comfortably between your other teeth. Then, we’ll take digital impressions of your tooth and upload them to our smile preview software—no messy impressions needed! Our skilled dentist, Dr. Vayner will use your digital impressions to virtually design a 3D model of your ceramic crown. Once the model is complete, we’ll send it to an experienced off-site milling unit where their team will create your custom crown.
Once your crown is delivered to our office, we’ll check for quality, fit, and comfort before we attach it. We never want our patients to leave our office feeling unhappy with their crown, which is why we take every step necessary to ensure its just right!
