ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANTS

Implants are dental appliances that have a screw-shaped base made of titanium that is embedded into your jaw bone. The dental implant acts as a fixed and permanent rod to replace a natural tooth. Once the area has healed following implantation, a prosthetic crown will be affixed, filling the space left by a missing tooth while also rejuvenating your smile!

In order to qualify for an implant, patients must have healthy gums and adequate jaw bone density to support the screw-shaped base. Wondering if you’re a candidate? Call us today and we’ll be happy to assess your unique oral health situation!

DENTAL IMPLANT FAQ

Are dental implants painful?

It is uncommon for patients to experience pain during the implant procedure. At Vayner Family Dentistry, our team will administer local anesthesia to help ease any pain you may have. Though you may feel mild discomfort while your implant site is healing, we recommend over-the-counter pain medication for mild discomfort or pain. If you have pain that persists for over a week, call our office to schedule a follow-up exam.

How long does the implant process take?

The length of time varies based on the person, but it often takes a couple of months. First, you will have the initial consultation at our office with an appointment for the procedure to follow. Once placed, the longest part of the process is waiting for the implants to heal. After that process is complete and if there are no issues, you will then have the implant secured onto the implant posts.

What are the after-care instructions for dental implants?

After the implant is secured, it acts just like your natural tooth. You should care for it by brushing and flossing twice per day and using a fluoridated mouthwash. Most importantly, you should be keeping up with your routine cleanings and exams to ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy. If you feel that you are having any issues with the implant site, please call our office, and we will be happy to schedule a follow-up exam!
